How it Works

HOW BLOGGING WILL WORK IN MY CLASSROOM:

1. You must blog at least once a week. The week runs from Monday at 12:01AM to Sunday at 11:59PM. Sometimes I will assign the blog post; sometimes you will have free choice.

2. After you post, you must read and comment on 3 other peers’ blog posts. It is fine to read and comment on your friends’ posts, but at least ONE comment per week should be on a classmate’s blog that you’ve never commented on before!

QUALITY COMMENTING:
  • Like a letter --  greeting, comment, closing
  • No revealing personal info
  • Be friendly, interested, and polite
  • Make your comment worth reading; inspire a response
  • Start a conversation  -- compliment in a specific way, ask a question, add new info
  • Say something that hasn’t been said already (in post and in comments)
  • You can disagree, but be cognizant of the fact that sarcasm, etc. doesn’t always translate well in written form. Criticism should be constructive.

2-POINT APPRAISAL:

  • 0 points = Pitiful - no comment or “I liked your blog. Check out mine.”
  • 1 point = Peachy - “Hi, Bob. I agree that And Then There Were None should have ended differently. In addition to what you disliked, I felt that…”
  • 2 points = Powerful - “Hi, all. I understand your frustrations. Did anybody read the epilogue? I thought it was pretty sweet that, uncharacteristically, the murderer is the one to solve the murder in the end...”
